I have gone to Schroon lake a few times, as my boy scout goes to camp there -you are right, it is hilly! but one I have always wanted to do. In answer to your question about the cat lady, while we were in front of the race director's house, I noticed a fluffy white cat looking out the screen porch across the street --went over to say hello and the owner was so nice --turns out she has 3 long-haired persians, all rescued from NYC shelters!
