My profession in the news...

Apparently by night I am a pretty pathetic runner/athlete but by day I am a superhero!! And of course since my husband is also a statistician I in fact live in a household of superhero's. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/04/AR2009080403117.html?referrer=emailarticle

By the way, I am a little ashamed to admit that my husband and/or I may or may not own at least one of the t-shirts pictured here.

That's why [presenter Steven Woloshin]'s leading this workshop on statistical literacy. Because the general population does not get it. Worse, they don't even get what they don't get. They use "random" when they mean "uniform." They confuse "cause" with "correlation." They do not question study designs, like the recent survey claiming Republicans were happier with their sex lives than Democrats, but failing to take into account that more Republicans are men, who always think they're studs. They can't tell the difference between relative and absolute risk. They can't tell the difference between the mean and the median. "That eats at me constantly," says Jim Cochran, a statistics professor from Louisiana.

ZOMG, sister!1! You people are worse than librarians!

(Statistically speaking, of course.)

Statistically speaking on average we are probably worse than about 50% of the population and better than 50% of the population:-)

Who knew I would become geek-chic when I grew up???

I wish my super-human strength knew no boundaries...just last night I was having a pity party because I was struggling to run the4 mile fun run at our local store (although in my pity party I also mentioned that I was still recovering from donating blood this past Sat, my 100 mile run 2+ weeks ago and my marathon 1+ weeks ago).
